light switch rod

:I just rebuilt my '28 sports coupe steering column and replaced the light switch rod. The old one was actually too short and the lower gasket was missing. Now I can't get the spring, gasket, switch activator and light switch keeper on the light switch rod. Everthing else seems to be in the right configuration and position.HELP!
