upper rumble lid bumpers

Please! Please! Please!!! Someone tell me the secret to installing those stupid little mushroom shaped bumpers that the rumble lid rests on. After sweating for a couple hours (no really...HOURS!) and ruining a new set of these bumpers, I decided I must just look like an idiot and ask for help. So here I am...begging, PLEASE HELP ME!
