engine misfiring and backfire

I'm sure this topic has been covered before but I did a search and nothing was found.Anyway, I have a recently acquired 1930 Coupe.It was running OK for about a week and then the engine started missing and sometimes backfiring while accelerating (or at least trying to).Finally the car quit and had to be towed home on Sunday afternoon. Here's what I did today in the order in which I did it. I also tried running the car after each step: checked cast iron bowl for gunk and rust (none), replaced condenser, replaced plugs, replaced rotor, replaced distributor cap, replaced distributor body, and replaced points.I have also set the timing using the "traditional" method and of course regapped the points and plugs.The car still runs very poorly.Any other ideas?Thanks.
