: Carla,
:Hmm, so the 440A stuff is good for this application? Centerless ground would give you an accruate .625 shaft, alright!I've seen the drawings, but don't remember where--you're 100% correct that that would be the proper way to tool up. I have seen shafts with the wrong taper on them too, makes for wobbly fans! Of course these shafts would cost more than the 'gypo' shafts being sold today, I assume!
: I wonder if MAFFI has the pump shaft drawings?? I guess with a cnc machining center they could be spit out in short order.
: Hmm, production run around 500 maybe????? (another closely held secret, the size of part production runs!)

hello, david,

i didn't have anything quite so fancy in mind, cos we haven't any fancy new cnc equipment.

we do have a nice little EE monarch, tho, with the taper attachment, which will do a bit better work than the cnc, just not nearly so fast.--- i was thinking of making a dozen or so of these shafts--- all that would be really needed would be a good original to copy-- and a nos or perfect hub to fit the taper.

i sure wouldn't mind trading some of these for the 31 steering worm i need for my ford.
