: Hi Folks,

Thank you all for your advice.Every comment and suggestion is greatly appreciated. Here's the lastest.I checked the car out last night and there is definite (rotational) play in the pully casting. (about 1/16") I called the gentleman who built the shortblock and he confirmed that the pully is in fact a two peice design. The ratchet nut is completely tight and I would suspect that DJ is correct.I was assured that the oil slinger is in place so I think the thing to do is either the undercut method described by DJ or a thin washer added beneath the ratchet nut.My old engine had a washer installed so this may be somewhat common.I found two water pump front bearing thrust washers (Where did they come from?) that are are perfectly sized to fit under the ratchet nut undetected. They are .040" thick. I beleieve one should do it!Do I have to get this special socket to remove the ratchet or will a deep well socket fit?Any experiences here will also be appreciated.

After all of this I started the engine and listened from in FRONT of the car this time. The sound seems to be eminating from the crank hole far more than the fan hub area.I think we may be onto something here!I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Regards,

Kevin Daly
