First - if the crank pulley moves on the shaft then DJ's nailed a problem, but not necessarily the noise you hear. ANY motion is too much motion.
At first I though you were saying that the fan could move relative to the pump shaft,if it does then the taper in the fan is worn, and can knock.ANY motion here is too much.
I assume you packed the front bearing with grease before installing it, oiled the felts, and greased the assembly after it was together.I also assume you set the end play to proper limits (about 0.01").
