Kevin,
I purchased a modern Leakless Water Pump from Bratton's my favorite parts store. Drove my 30 Tudor around all day on Easter Sunday. On my way back to the garage a noise started to develope from engine compartment. It got LOUDER and started to scare the H out of me.All I wanted to due was get back to my garage.

Using a professional automotive electronic stethoscope, I pin pointed the FRONT BEARING on my NEW water pump.Yes the new leakless water pump failed. The next day I called Walt Bratton and he told me about one in one hundred are machined wrong.A new pump was shipped to me ASAP and a call tag was send to pick up the failed pump. The second pump has worked fine. One day I found the fan blade lose and had to tighten it.I am not sure how this happened with cotter pin in place.

Kevin as you can tell I did not rebuild my water pump, just replaced it. But today I removed the water pump from my 30 Coupe and plan on rebuilding with deluxe S.S. kit.

Sure wish I could help you more.I will have a better knowledge on water pumps after rebuilding this one.

Good Luck,
Tim Wildey

P.S. Your engine is fine !!

: Hi Tim,

: I read one of your responses concerning engine ticking further down the board.I just got my A back on the road Sunday with a rebuilt engine only to find a peculiar rapping coming from the fan area of the water pump.I ran the car briefly without the fan belt and the sound wasn't there.I'm assuming that it's a spent roller bearing.I have a new cast aluminum fan that has been balanced and the water pump is just rebuilt with a stainless shaft, teflon nut, etc...I also have a collar on the front of the shaft to control end play in the shaft.I installed the pump and lubed it properly, and now I have this rapping.

: You had stated that you had a faulty bearing from the get go.Could you please elaborate on what exactly you found during disassembly. (Broken needles, scored shaft...) and could you please tell me what components you ended up replacing. (Bearing sleeve, cup washers etc...) This would be of a tremendous help to me.

: Thank You,

: Kevin Daly

: PSWhen I took off the fan belt, I spun the pump by propping the fan and heard no rapping at all.The rapping seems to happen more at idle than any other time, however it rears it's ugly head at any time.
