Hi Tim,

I read one of your responses concerning engine ticking further down the board.I just got my A back on the road Sunday with a rebuilt engine only to find a peculiar rapping coming from the fan area of the water pump.I ran the car briefly without the fan belt and the sound wasn't there.I'm assuming that it's a spent roller bearing.I have a new cast aluminum fan that has been balanced and the water pump is just rebuilt with a stainless shaft, teflon nut, etc...I also have a collar on the front of the shaft to control end play in the shaft.I installed the pump and lubed it properly, and now I have this rapping.

You had stated that you had a faulty bearing from the get go.Could you please elaborate on what exactly you found during disassembly. (Broken needles, scored shaft...) and could you please tell me what components you ended up replacing. (Bearing sleeve, cup washers etc...) This would be of a tremendous help to me.

Thank You,

Kevin Daly

PSWhen I took off the fan belt, I spun the pump by propping the fan and heard no rapping at all.The rapping seems to happen more at idle than any other time, however it rears it's ugly head at any time.
