As you know grease is not the correct lubricant for steering boxes. Ford put grease fittings on them, which is where the confusion arises. I'd recommend replacing the grease fitting with a 1/8 inch pipe plug. A leak at the bottom is probably caused by either the felt seal not being in place or it might need replacing. There is a nut that ightens into the lower bearing assembly. By removing this nut, you should be able to tell if the felt seal is in place. It might be that the nut just needs to tightened against the felt seal. There are some good pictures and a sechematic drawing in Model "A" Ford Restoration& Maintenance Handbook Vol. 2 by Paul Moller.
I think the 7 tooth sectors take about 7 and 1/2 ounces of lubricant. Good luck, Dave.
