Carl, Use a good multi-grade. Some Model A owners say that detergent oils are bad for the Model A because it does not have an oil filter. The detergent oils will pick up the dirt and run it through the engine. A non-detergent oil will not pick up the dirt. However as I pointed out before a VW bug does not have an oil filter and they seem to run forever. However you MUST change the oil more often than a modern car. The most will say change it every 500 miles. You can also get an oil filter kit that will allow you to use an oil filter. Leaded gas was introduced to help high compression cars run without knocking. A Model A will run just fine on unleaded gas. A side effect of leaded gas was that the exhaust valves would be coated with a "lead" which allows you to use a cheaper valve. You can use the lowest octane gas that you can find. (it should be good clean gas). Bob |
