: I am attempting to align a hood and one suggestion has been to lower the rad. Can I do this by removing all the rubber shims between rad and frame? If I do this will I decrease the gap at the bottom of the hood by the cowl and increase the gap between the bottom of rad shell and hood? This is what I want to do. My doors close nicely and I am concerned that if I raise the cowl by adding shims under the front body mount bolts, I may disturb door alignment. Another question - How tightly should the castle nuts on the rad mounting bolts be drawn down against the springs? It would seem to me that the purpose of the springs must be to give the rad a little bit of give as the car is driven on rough roads. Is this right?
Wayne...I have seen the shims as thin as a sixteenth and as thick as three eights...I think their thickness was used to align the hood as well as eliminate squeeks...but if it was very far off I would really be thinking of raising the body...especially if yer car is closed...they are not terrably hard ot realign...just raise it all around evenly....you also can "fudge" by shimming the rear hood pivot up...which will have the same effect as lowering the radiator...good luck...Joel
