1. Correct way to jack front end 2. Crank alignment

First an very basic question (almost ashamed to ask):Is it safe to raise the front end of a Model A using a floor jack under the center of the axle?

Secondly, want to crank the engine of a Victoria that has been in storage for seven years.Problem is that the crank guide was welded in out of alignment and the crank won't go in at correct angle to crank.Have tried to grind down crank to get it in at correct angle but not luck.Doesn't seem to be room to get socket in to turn crankshaft.Am open to any suggestions.Really do not want to try starter until I am satisfied that it will turn over.Would it be safe to forget cranking and just try to turn it over with starter?

These probably seem like silly questions to you "pros" but I can assure you they are meaningful to a guy getting started.

Thanks,
Ron Klamm
