Join at least one of the national clubs and your local one as well. There are many so you shouldn't have to travel far. I learned that some of the friendlist folks I ever meet were Model Aers and most are ever so willing to help you out.
I can't recommend joining your local club enough. You can save a lot of money and time with your project because you'll benfit from others experience.
