: I just had my 4 cly overhauled and I am about to put it back together. Someone told me that there is a special coating you put on the gaskets to help them seal. He said the head gasket? Is there a need for a sealing compound and is it just for the head gasket or all gaskets.

: Thanks, Tony

Tony...I have been teaching engine repair for 24 years and normally I would never put anything on a head gasket ..except..an "A"

Copper coat is good..or any metaliac type spray...I've even seen silver paint used..it is needed...as well as re-torquing
composition gaskets seem better than the copper sandwich gaskets but sometimes you have to use what you can get..
the remainder of your gaskets...first..all cork gaskets go in the bath tub beforeyou ruin em...trust me they are shrunk..a bit of time in water will allow them to relax and fit much better...then use permatex #2..I believe in better living through chemicals...in other words..stick everything together..both sides etc...if you ever have to take er aparts..use laqurer thinner...but if you do it well you will never have a leaky gasket or one that moves...I never reuse a gasket anyhow...
