F150 transmission

I'm planning to install a mid 80's Ford pick up tranny in my A.It's the toploader.I understand that the 3 speed OD tranny's have differing OD ratios.How can I identify which ratio it has? I don't have the tranny yet.Also did Ford make a 5-speedwith the same basic outside dimensions? If so does anyone know the ratios? Thanks, Ted,Beamsville,Ontario,Canada
