Hi Bob

Reading what you did makes me want to live with my cracked
steering wheel a little longer. But, here is some information
I found. In his book, "Model A Ford Restoration and
Maintenance Handbook" Volume 2 by Paul Moller, he suggests on
page 26, to: File off the broken threads flush with the
wheel hub. Remove light switch tube, stuff a rag down the
shaft to trap particles and drill the inside of the shaft with
a 29/64" bit and tap for 1/2" SAE cap screw. Use a 1/2" by 1"
cap screw and drill a 25/64" hole down through it for the
light switch rod to go through. The hole in bolt (cap screw)
must be in exact center. Best to use a lathe to make sure the
hole is centered. Install the wheel with the bolt and a
flat washer.Push the rag out with a stiff wire or rod.

Hope this helps - and - let me know if it works.

Craig
