I believe one of the other responces mentioned this but I'm going to anyway. When you meet with this type of pessamism take a few minutes to ask about some of the items that are there. If you happen to carry a picture of a project you have done or are working on show them that also.As you said we need to show some people that the spirit is still alive, and you hopefully will be pleasantly surprised at how fast someone warms up to the interest you show.I have met with this type of situation a few times and ended up talking with the "offender" for quite some time after they realize that you too believe that some things should be kept as they were.OBviously you won't always be succesful but what's to lose? Don't be too quick to judge, as it seems to be easier to find evidence of rods than real cars (look through the Old Car Trader once or go to a local show).

I am 32 and started restoration on my first car about 6 months ago.I have a 5 year old son and 12 year old nephew that are crazy about the old girl.I also collect antique engines and tractors, and see a lot of interest in the things from bygone days in the youth there, and the funny thing is I meet some of the best behaved well mannered "kids" at these shows.

One important thing to remember is there is a lot of untapped interest in the old car hobby.Kids need to be introduced to the sport. My interest stems from my grandfather and father taking me to steam thresing shows when I was a kid.

BTW, I am from Minnesota so there are a few of us that are doing it up here.
