: Just returned from a show in Moultrie GA where there
: were several vendors of Model A parts. When I look at
: the vendors and those folks hanging around them, the
: aura of death, doom & gloom predominates. They sell
: few parts and don't act very friendly to us young ones
: who pass by. They size me up and figure that a 40 year old like me only wants to do a street rod. One fellow didn't
: want to even talk to me, despite that I wanted to buy
: some parts from him.

: Come on guys.It's us 40, 30, & 20 somethings who are here
: to keep the Model A alive, original and running in the 21st
: century.I have yet to encounter here in Metro Atlanta
: someone of my age (or younger) who is restoring a Model A.

: Maybe it's a southern thing, since I see from the postings
: that some younger folks out West are actively doing restorations. At least that give me hope for the future.

: It's time for us young ones to stand up to these old geysers
: and let them know that the Model A is very alive and will
: be here long after they've gone to the great parking lot
: of the hereafter.

I think you may be right about the age gap being a southern thing. I am 41 and a native Texan that has seen this type of behavior many times. When I was 17, my dad and I were at a swap meet in Dallas looking at some "A" parts. The vender looked at me, held up a part and said, "I bet you don't know what this is." My reply was, "It's a powerhouse generator, so what?". He was shocked to find I did know something about model A's and started talking to me. My advice is to "jump in" and start talking to these guys to let them know you're interested and knowledgable. Maybe then you will start getting some respect.
