Disc brakes with original wheels ?

I have a car with hydraulic brakes and would like to upgrade ...the car is using 40 Ford brakes now...I would like more stopping power...has anyone ever seen disc brakes on original wheels?Or has anyone ever found a better drum conversion? I just don't seem to get the stopping power with the 40 units.
