I have built up the impeller end of the shaft with a mig welder to eliminate the end play. You do, however, have to look inside the head to see if there is enough "meat" left where the old impellers have a tendency to gouge them out.Walt bratton's collar may be installed additionally.Use a lot of lubricant on friction surfaces.
: I recently purchased a water pump rebuild kit from Bratton's that contains a collar with a set screw that goes on the shaft at the front of the pump to eliminate shaft end play.My question is this.Should that collar replace the normal cupped bearing retainer or be put on in addition to it.There were no instructions with the kit and both parts came with it.If anyone has used one of these before I would appreciate some help.Thanks.
