: Due to not having a rebuildable generator I purchased a 6 volt
: one wire hookup aternator for my 29 closed cab pickup and now
: I have a slight current drain through the alt. This goes away
: when I remove the one wire hookup.I am not on the road yet so cannot tell if the charging rate is correct.Do I have a defective alt.Or am I just charging up somthing inside.I don't think this would be normal operation. And for the purist this is the only alteration except for a little more comfortable seat cushion. Thanks for any and all help.

Hi Jim..

When I converted my A to 12 volts negative ground, I took my alternator to a shop and had them change the internal regulator to a "self exciting" one which allows the "one wire" hookup as original.

I'm as dumb as a rock when it comes to the electrical stuff, but maybe that has someting to do with your problem if you didn't do that.Let's hope Bob Carabbio reads this.
