: Thanks in advance for any help,

: does anyone know how to clean out rust from inside the gas tank?

: We have tried to flush with water, it seemed that wegot it all but soon the settlement bulb and line were clogging so quickly that you might only run a minute or two.

: It seems to me that we need a way to knock loose rust stuck to the inside of the tank and perhaps then apply something to seal the inside of the tank.

: thanks

I purchased a 31 that last ran 15 years ago...owner never ran it dry...just left it all to rust and varnish.Got it running last Feb in about a week but had continual problems with rust in the fuel. Here's what I did and I haven't had problems since March 96. I use it to do errands and to transport the family to granmas house for thanksgiving.....
Purchased the micron filter for the inside of the fuel bowl and the filter that mounts in the bottom of the fuel tank. is filter allows fuel to enter the line even when sediment may be loading up at the ase of the tank. Also, I recommendnew style, neoprene float valve for the carb just in case some of the micron sized rust makes its way to this point. With the fuel filter at the base of the tank, a micron filter in the glass bowl, the sediment bowl, the filte in the carburetor I've had not problems. I periodically check and clean the sediment filter and open the drain at the bottom of the zenith.......Runs fine now....there was tons of rust and varnish in the car when I got it.....Good luck
