According to Ford parts and service information, the A 3571-A (AR) bearing was the first rendition of the tapered roller bearing used with the Gemmer two-tooth steering and was superseded by A 3571-B in mid 1929. The A 3123-A thrust type bearing was used from introduction and measured 1.630" O.D.. It was specified for use on both the spindle bolts and steering worm. Sometime in 1928 it was replaced with A 3123-B which measured 1.665" O.D. and was again specified for use in both locations.

I agree that 1-1/2" play at the wheel (on the ground) is probably as good as the 7 tooth steering will get without unused original gears.

: Yo Mike!Been there done that.1.5 inches of play in a 7 toother should be considered on target.I spent about $300 refining the fit of mine and still have about that much. It's better than the quarter turn I started with though. One thing of note is that although the bearings look very similar, the spindle bearings are not exactly the same as the steering shaft bearings. If you are going to take it apart (I would leave it alone) you should get the specific bearing for the shaft.I have a set of A 3571-AR bearings that are the correct for your box in case you need it.E-mail me for more info on 7 tooth rebuilds if you need it.
