I cleaned mine the way Bob did, but instead of a lye solution, I removed and converted the residual rusty surface with phosphoric acid.I put a gallon of the acid sold as a "metal conditioner" at the hardware store, sealed all ports, and sloshed it around for about 1/2 hour. Then emptied, rinsed well with water, and dried thoroughly (very important) with a hose blowing hot air into the tank for several hours. Then sloshed with white urethane compound per instructions.

: Thanks in advance for any help,

: does anyone know how to clean out rust from inside the gas tank?

: We have tried to flush with water, it seemed that wegot it all but soon the settlement bulb and line were clogging so quickly that you might only run a minute or two.

: It seems to me that we need a way to knock loose rust stuck to the inside of the tank and perhaps then apply something to seal the inside of the tank.

: thanks
