You can have the crank "industrial hard-chromed" and ground to size. You might consider, since I never said that this was cheap, re-line-boring the mains, at least, to standard and having the crank chromed back to standard to match. Because it's hideously under-sized (on the mains), you'll have lots and lots of babbitt to cut down - biggest undersize - fattest babbitt. Industrial hard-chromed cranks and cams last almost forever without wear, so re-grinding the crank is one thing you'll never have to do again. Do have the crank magnafluxed to be sure you're working on a good one - if you do this, you can use any model a crank - not necessarily the one from your engine - because you'll be re-fitting anyway. Is the current babbitt good enough to be worth all the trouble? Sounds kind of suspicious ... |
