Rear Body Splash Apron Identification

Posted by Rick Black on December 20, 1997 at 08:57:24

I have a 1931 Slantwindow Fordor (160-C) and need the piece of sheet metal that goes under the rear of the body.I'm not sure what it's official name is, but I've heard it referred to as the rear body splash apron.

Several body styles used a piece similar to mine; all the Slantwindow Fordors used them (and they were identical), but so did 30-31 Victorias and 30-31 Deluxe phaetons. Also, earlier "straight-window" Briggs and Murray Fordors may have used them, and perhaps even standard 4-door phateons.

My question is whether anyone knows how to identify which apron was used on which cars?I've not been able to find a part number in any of the literature, nor have I ever seen any articles in the major Model A magazines discussing this.

In my search for this piece, several other owners mentioned that they've discovered many variations as they looked for replacments for their Model A's.

If you have any information regarding these panels, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you.If I get sufficient information, I'd be happy to pass it along to MAFCA's Restorer Editor for a possible technical article.
