Loss of power

My 1931 A seems to lose power after driving for about 3Kms or i think aout 1.5 miles???
there seems to be no exhuast gas from the exhuast and there is a coplete loss of power( the car is drivable but at snails pace.)
Please help
I am told it could be a muffler box???
Would a new exhuast system help???
