John's information is right on.I just wanted to point out that a reference of engine numbers is available on the MAFCA Web site below.
Navigate to the "Reference Desk" page and then "Data" - one of the documents is a list of Model A Engine Production and the year and month that those engines were made.
As John pointed out, the engines were then sent to assembly plants and it could have been weeks or even a few months before they were placed in a chassis.
