I had the same desire as you, keep an original look but get away from the hassel of moving the third brush.I have used a regulator that does away with the third brush and regulates the generator as thou it were an alternator.The setup is solid state and is attached to the band that covers the openings in the end of the generator.It is supplied complete with a new bankThis has worked very well for about 8 years and 15,000 miles.The setup was obtained from:
