Andy,
The original wiper required five holes through the frame and was mounted outside the car. The hole pattern may help determine which model wiper it was. It's easy to get $200-$300 wrapped up in an original wiper but can be done for less over time. I would probably work with what you have at least for the time being and get more creative with the switch location.
