:Well I guess the header of this message just about said it all.Anyway, here lately on my 31 coupe the bendix keeps getting stuck on the flywheel and not releasing.I have to get out and "rock the boat" to get it to spring back into place.Yesterday I had to go as far as to remove the starter bolts and then rock the car again to get it to fly loose. Is this normal, what can I do to stop it, does it need shims, do I need a new spring, or what?Other than that the starter works great!
:I'd like to thank everyone in advanced for the help.

G'Day Bryan,
I had the same problem & managed to straighten my shaft by first rolling the armature on a flat surface to determine where the bend was, then clamping the shaft in my lathe chuck with the bend just outside the jaws, & giving the armature a couple of clouts with a rubber mallet. The chuck can be turned by hand to check how you're doing. While you have the starter off, get "your helper" to turn the engine slowly & check the back of the ring gear with a small mirror on a stick for damage. As the starter engages from the clutch side it's a bit difficult to see, but if there's major tooth damage, you'll end up with the same problem again.
