Larry, You are quite right the diode selected is important. There are two main considerations, voltage and current.You want to use a diode that is rated for more voltage and current than will ever flow through the circuit. The bigger the better.Of course the limiting factors are how big is the physical size and cost.If you were to use a diode rated at 8.0 volts and 10 amps you would be asking for trouble. But a 24 volt 100 amp diode might be overkill. Bob |
