: Hi Guys I have Just taken delivery of a long awaited A model Tudor 1930 vintage (about 30 years) and she comes with a couple of spare engines , starter motors and a wiring system including battery that seems to be original neglected equipment. It will cost about $120 Australian for a new 6 volt battery and as I have a perfectly good spare 12 volter on hand and I am going through the dilema of convert or not to convert I would appreciate thoughts on the matter. My questions are

:1.What type of alternator is recommended.
:2.If negative earth is used and the starter motor left as is what happens? Does it try to go backwards? or do mostpeople just leave the converted 12 volt system as a positive earth to avoid complications?

: Ta muchly for any help

Alex,
Use the 12V battery to go frog gigging or something. But keep the old car original. You have waited so long for it.Why quibble over a few dollars now.Ultametly that 12v battery will fail and have to be replaced. Then what?Save yourself a lot of trouble modifying and put a 6v battery back in it.
Not a purist....but close.
Have fun!
Paul
