: In replacing the main drive gear bearing retainer to the bellhousing, does the retainer insert/fit from the rear of the housing or is it placed from inside the bell housing? My retainer unit seams like a very tight fit to the housing,Is the bellhousing end tappered in one direction.I zinc coated both parts,so the additional thickness of finish is making this fit tighter than originally when I took it apart.Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks F.M.

G'Day Fred,
The retainer should fit through the bell housing from the front so you're probably right about the zinc coating making it too tight a fit. It's a simple matter of removing 4 bolts to check the bell housing, but I'd rather sand the outside of the housing lightly until it fits as the bell housing locates on this housing to hold it central & to add strength to the assembly when bolted up.
