:I"m sure some of you have been involved in complete restorations from bare frame-up .I am at the scarry stage of restoration, the family rooms full of restored parts, the body is sitting on one side of the garage ,the frame on the other, the engine is at the machine shop being rebuilt. My question is can I start re-assembling the frame without the engine in place? It may be a month or more before it is ready. Do I assemble in reverse order of disassembly? Is it ok to mount the flyweel housing with rear motor mount to frame in order to mount tranny,etc.etc.then remount to engine when it is ready .Sure could use some helpful hints at the stage!

G'Day Fred,
My advice (for what it's worth) is go ahead with your restoration in the sequence that's EASIEST for your particular situation. Obviously if you use the flywheel housing before the motor is complete it'll be a great help as it supports not only the front of the tranny but also the radius rod from the front axle. The obvious advantage of this procedure is that you'll have a ROLLING chassis (once the wheels are on) that can be moved in & out & round about to create space & to support the transmission whilst the housing is remounted to the motor (not forgetting the shims under the top bolts) is a minor exercise. Another plus is you'll loose less of that immaculate "Antique Ford Green" & black enamel it took so long to prepare for & apply.
