Yes, $4000 is a bit pricey! Thanks for the detailed info. I have spoken with someone else that replyed, and they were not familiar with the block alone, but with it being sold as a complete engine. He didn't know the price, but the engine resulted (as built by Donovan) in 100 hp and 125 ft./lbs. of torque. Very disappointing in light of the very mild buildup that dyno'ed at 80 hp that was featured in "The Secret of Speed". [see http://users.aol.com/gmaclaren/dyno.htm] $4000 just to lighten the bay and have pressurized oiling, I think not! And, just gain 20 horsepower? No, I'll pass. I can't imagine a use for the Donovan engine's overkill, since the X-class was banned in the early sixties.
