: I suddenly have a problem with a tremendous amount of pretty nasty looking sediment clogging the shut off valve in my '28 Model A.How in the world can the tank be cleaned and is there anything that can be done to prevent whatever this kind of scaling or build up from occurring in the future? If you have any advice, I would love to hear from you.

Fred, The problem is not uncommon with a Model A.Obviously removing the tank and doing a thorough flushing will get rid of the sediment. You might keep it from returning with the sealers provided by the suppliers( see MAFCA WEB page).I understand there are varied views on the use of sealers.I have never used them.
One of the fellows in our club has had considerable success by carefully siphoning the bottom of the tank, using a light to see debris at the bottom. He has repeated the operation a couple of times and for the past year has had no trouble.
I use the small filter screen that fits in the top of the gas valve. It is very similar to the screen that is in the Zenith Carb. They prevent anything small enough to clog the system from entering the valve. As long as it stays in the tank, it can do little harm. The gas valve must be removed to install the filter screen.Available from the suppliers listed in the MAFCA WEB site.
Have fun,
Paul
