: I need to replace the rivets in the front cross-member of a '31 Tudor and noticed that the holes in the frame are larger than the holes in the cross member. Is this the way it was manufactured? The kit I ordered contains 9 straight round-head rivets and about 6 flat-top rivets. The middle andrear cross-members have round-head rivets.Where do the flat-top rivets go and what should I do about the different sized holes? Thanks.

G'Day Ken,
Sounds like you have an extremely common problem associated with the front cross-member. What normally happens is it's removed to repair cracks & then "BOLTED" back into position.(Not for purists but does the job). The flat head rivets you talk about should actually be countersunk head rivets which fit into the holes on top of the chassis where the radiator mounts but it's a really miserable job to rivet them from below. What I did with mine was buy bigger diameter rivets & drill all holes to fit. The six used on top of the chassis I fitted from below & riveted the tops down as close to the chassis as possible & then ground them flush with the top of the chassis.
