: I live in Stettler, Alberta, Canada, and have obtained a Tudor which the former owner says is a '28. However, two different fellows who seem to know have told me it's a '29 because the rear tail light is located on the left rear fender. Anyone out there who can help this "Model A rookie" out? Your help is appreciated!
Malcolm,
All Model A's had the rear tail light on the left rear fender. A optional light could be added to the right at extra cost. The best way to determine if your Tudor is a '28 or '29 is to look on the firewall on the driver's side, just above the upper bolted joint (about 1/3 of the way down from the top). Somewhere in that area is the assembly date. It is stamped on nearly all '28 and '29 cars in this area. It will look something like 7-18-29 and may be stamped upside down. Another is to check the engine number on the left side of the engine. Those from *A1* thru *A810122* are '28's and from *A810123* thru *A2742695* are '29's. There is some leeway on this because engine production sometimes outran car production and some other factors. The other problem here is that the engine could have been replaced sometime in the 62 years since it was built. The firewall stamping is pretty accurate though. Gas tanks weren't replaced very often.
Hope this has helped.
John
