The shackles appear to have thread-in fittings generally (1/8 NPT).If they have a 7/16" Hex, they screw in.For the shackles, if you unscrew the fitting, then run a drill into the hole (about 3/16 diameter or so). It'll go about an inch deep, and remove all the dried out stuff. The screw the fitting back in, and try greasing again - it worked for me.I also replaced all the original Alemite fitting with modern Zerks for practical purposes.

As far as the hood goes, what you are describing is caused by the front of the body being too high, or the radiator being too low. There should be rubber pads between the radiator legs and the frame.

There may also be excessive amounts of shim under the front body mount blocks to align the doors which are elevating the front of the body too far.Check the alignment of the doors with their frames for a clue about deteriorated body mount blocks.

The simple answer is probably to elevate the radiator until the alignment is O.K. if everything else seems in order.
