: Does anyone have have experience welding a cut away portion of of firewall? I have a 1931 Tudor which had the bottom middle section (about 10 inches wide and 6 inches high) cut out by the previous owner for a different engine. The original engine is now installed and the car runs, but I need to patch up the opening. I have a piece of firewall I could have cut and welded, but need to know if this is practical (or possible). Replacing the firewall looks difficult. Any ideas? Thanks. Joe, Possible? Yes! With a MIG welder that panel can be welded back into place. If you are concerned about cosmetics under the hood, it might be well to remove the engine so that the area can be metal worked from that side. The inside could be worked ok, as is. Practical? If you are having it done, it could be expensive. Depending on what you want cosmeticaly. Firewall replacement would come under the "practical" side of this equation. However, I think it could be done with the engine installed. Have fun! Paul |
