boosting a 6 volt battery with a 12 volt

Is there any problem boosting a 6 volt positive ground Model A with a modern 12 volt battery? I am assuming that you would still match neg. to neg. and positive to positive even though it would be 12 volt neg. ground. Is there any possibility of harming the Model A starter, generator or wiring harness by doing this?Are booster cables today suitable for 6 volt batteries?Somewhere I read that today's cables are designed for 12 volt and because of the amperage difference between 6 & 12 volt they do not work that well.Any comments or opinions?
