If you can, locate a copy of the "Model A Service Bulletins", a reprint of the Ford monthly service letters sent to Ford Dealers advising them of service procedures.A description of the various lubrication techniques there should help you out.

You may see a lubricant called "600W" called for. This was used in the gear box, rear axle, and even in the steering gear in some cases. Although many Model A suppliers carry stuff that they call "600W", I've never found any that's as thick as the original stuff.

Shell Oil makes a modern variation of it that they call "Valvata" and I understand that either Mobil or Texaco make some too. It's used to lubricate diesel engines and locomotives! It's the real stuff, too. You'll probably have a tough time locating it, but it'll probably make your Model A work great.
