: I began adjusting the brakes on my '30 coupe and discovered that the front levers have free play in them. One side about 1/4 inch and the other side 3/8 inch. Should this be and how do I correct it?

: Thanks for any help. Dick R.

Dick, I need a little more info. about the play.If you refer to the play of the lever (forward and rearward) with the clevis pin removed, that play could be normal for the way it is being tested.Meaning that taking up the reaward play seats the actuating lever (inside the spindle bolt head) on the top of the vertical actuating rod.If you are speaking about lateral play of the actuating shaft, that is not normal and will require examination to locate that problem and come up with a fix. Referring to Jim Schilds, Restorers Model A Shop Manual will give you some insight as to how the system works and some excellent instructions on how to repair it.
Have fun!
Paul
