: My 29 Roadster PU backfires each time I shift through the gears. It is quite and muffled, but a backfire never the less.I would appreciate some help with resolving the problem. What causes backfiring and how do I eliminate the problem?Does the brand of gasoline have anything to do with it?I appreciate any information and suggestions. Thanks

Make sure your timing is correct, then remember that the firing order is 1 2 4 3.My 30 Coupe backfired like crazy after I installed a modern distributor body and had it wired 1 2 3 4.Also, check to see that your point gap is .018 to .022, and that you have a good condensor. If you had bad gas, it probably wouldn't start at all.
