: In JimSchild "Restorer's Model A Shop Manual on page 194 item 8 Jim talks about installing the Wood Slats-Deck Cardboard retainer lower"
: I do not have any wood slats in the Rumble Seat area and I can not find any reference to the wood in any parts manuals or in any other manuals.Help!!!!

: Where is this wood he is talking about???

Dale, The wood slats are approximately 1/4" thick, 1 1/4 wide and 22" long. They are installed as indicated in Jim Schild's Manual. The "rear deck pillar", as he describes it, is shown in the picture (right) on page 193.The pillar is the vertical piece to which the Hinge Bracket is mounted. If the hinge bracket is removed the hole in the pillar is clearly visible. If the hinge bracket is in place, feel around the back side of the pillar. The hole is directly behind the hinge pivot bolt. The "front pillar" is at the foreward end of the trunk/rumble seat opening.Just under the rain drip rail.It also has a hole about half way down. The purpose of the slat is to serve as a backing for the cardboard cover.Prevents a passenger hip or?? from crushing the cover.
Note: The alignment of the deck lid in the opening can be "fun".A little tip I learned from installing them is to install the the Pivot bolts but do not tighten them.Place some paint stirring sticks in the rain gutter along the sides and the front of the lid.Wrap two or three in shop towels ( to prevent chipping paint) and install these, evenly spaced, between the rear edge of the lid and the curved outer panel below the lid. This will establish a nice clearance around the lid.Working from the inside (front seat and back rest removed), thighten the bolts.
Have fun!
Paul
