Rumble Seat Installation

In JimSchild "Restorer's Model A Shop Manual on page 194 item 8 Jim talks about installing the Wood Slats-Deck Cardboard retainer lower"
I do not have any wood slats in the Rumble Seat area and I can not find any reference to the wood in any parts manuals or in any other manuals.Help!!!!
Where is this wood he is talking about???
