He's mostly right -

You should also swap the primary wires on the ignition coil and re-polarize the generator by momentarily connecting the input and output terminals together with a heavy piece of wire.

The reason for the positive ground was a belief that connecting the frame to the negative pole of the battery would promote corrosion (which had been observed to occur on the negative pole of the battery more than on the positive pole). Fords were positive ground for years.The '48 Fords were still very "Model T" in overall design, with the '49s being the first really conventional car that Ford built.
