: I bought a partically restored (Engine, Frame & Running gear) and have noticed that the front cross member is Bolted to the frame (I thought that they were riveted by Ford) andthe Bolts are not a snug fit in the holes. Seems to me that you would want the Bolts to be the same size as the holes so as to eliminate and movement. Is this critical????

Dale, I bought a Model A several years ago.Restoration was started, not finished. The crossmember had been replaced using bolts. However they were grade 6 or 8 and the ones on the top of the chasis were large head counter sunk.I have never replaced a crossmember but have put in a few new rivets. They were on the outer corners and easily accessable. Those on the inside of the crossmember might pose a problem. With the frame in a cradle and positioned just right they might be a little easier to do.Perhaps another reader might have done this.Whatever used, bolts or rivets, they need to be tight.
Good luck with it.
Paul
