I don't know what the experts will say about the battery, but I purchased my 6 volt from a local Farm and Barn store.The only thing I need is a 6 volt battery.As far as getting the key out, hard to say without looking at it.I assume you have already tried the needle nose pliers/tweezers on it.I would just go out and get another ignition switch (none of my cars are judging material).
